Blast from the High School Past
Today our close friend Matt drove over from Tallahassee for a quick day visit. After catching up, I took Josh and him on a?tour of my high school life. I showed them the extremely ghetto Food World I worked, which is now closed. Probably for breaking 1,000 code violations. We went to J.M. Tate High School and stopped on the football field so I could show off some old cheerleading moves. We drove by my old house and to my surprise, our street ghost is still there! I love that ghost. I pointed out the street Ben lived off of, where I used to get gas in Betty Lou, the Winn Dixie that my Marme and I used to go to daily to get dinner, and other oh-so-thrilling landmarks.?

Though it was fun to revisit the past, I’m very thankful that I no longer in that place in life. I’m happy with where I am now and with what my life has become.?

Dirty South
Josh (we’re in FL so I get to refer to him by his FL name) and I left Miami Saturday. We flew 3 hours west to Dallas only to fly two hours back east to Pensacola. Make sense? I didn’t think so either. Especially since Dallas was having wind problems causing the closure of all but two runways.
So, were with the Knox’s now in the canoe (or maybe it’s kayak)?capital of the US. I probably won’t update from here again because there is no wireless in my parents house and their internet is slow. I didn’t think it was possible for internet to be slower than ours in Seattle, but I have been proven wrong. Also, their computer icons are ginormous and I can’t stand to stay on their computer longer than 5 minutes. You should all consider yourselves lucky to be reading this – you don’t know the pain my eyes are going through.
While the Milton/Pensacola area doesn’t really do it for me, I am excited to spend time with my parents and friends. I’m also excited for the all of the Target because, honestly, it’s not a trip to Pensacola unless you visit Target at least once a day.

Miami
We made it out of Seattle yesterday before the snow started again (thank God). Our travel was uneventful except for Santa in SeaTac and the annoying lady sitting behind me from DFW to MIA. I like sleeping in our bed in Miami because the sheets are so?ridiculously soft and comfortable.?This morning I woke up to banana bread and a sick husband. We’re resting now, catching up on sleep and whatnot.?
A few random things:
1. I hate the way my hair and clothes smell after being in an airplane all day. Stale air… gross.
2. I’m going outside by the lake to to read Twilight in about 5 minutes. Jealousssss?
3. I’m watching Mr. Deeds on TV. I haven’t seen this movie in forever and it makes me miss having cable (also, watching The Soup).
So now that I’ve completely bored myself, I’m going outside to go read.

Snow Days
Tuesday’s expected snow came yesterday. Josue and I ran a few errands and then went to Gas Works Park to play in the snow. The errand running part of our day is funny because Tuesday when it didn’t snow at all, Josue didn’t want me to leave the house because it was “too dangerous.” It’s also funny because I think it’s much scarier to drive while it’s raining and dark, which is something I do everyday for about 7 months out of the year. But yesterday, when it was actually snowing, driving seemed like an okay thing to do.?Gas Works was more crowed and cold than expected. We didn’t stay long because 1. we’re from Florida, 2. our gloves were crap, and 3. we don’t own proper snow footwear.

Last night we went to see Handel’s Messiah (Josue’s birthday present) at Benaroya Hall. We thought it prudent to take the bus instead of driving and after the show, though we waited for the bus for 14 minutes in 27 degree weather while a meth addict puked 8 feet away from us, we decided we made the right choice after seeing 4 cars on one street get stuck in the ice.
Today roads are icy so work is canceled AGAIN. Actually, I’m pretty bummed about this only because I know I’m going to have a super stressed out faculty members and slow printing services when I get back.

Logic Puzzle
Me: “Hey, how come your PJ pants are on the kitchen floor?”
Josue: “Last night I couldn’t sleep so I made myself some cereal and spilt milk on my pants so I took them off.”

Sounds of the Season
For six weeks of the year we get to listen to Christmas music without shame. Personally, I think six weeks is too short, but I’m a sucker for Christmas tunes. Out of all the Christmas songs out there, I can only think of two that I really can’t stand.
1. Christmas Shoes – I could go on for hours and hours about this song, but I will make my rant here brief. Listen, I want shoes for Christmas too, 6 pairs in fact (you can see them all on my Amazon wishlist), but shoes are the worst gift for someone who is about to die. If I’m on my death bed and my son gives me a pair of shoes, I’ll haunt him from the afterlife. Also, I don’t think Jesus cares what we are wearing when we die. Who knows, we might be naked. Then what help will shoes be? Worse than the song is that some genius thought this song would make a perfect movie. However, I acutally like when this song comes on the radio because, no matter the time, it means that I get to call my sister and sing/yell the song to her. And that is what Christmas is all about – yelling at the ones you love.
2. Mary Did You Know – This song puts me over the edge. The real questions is if Mary knows how stupid this song is. I think it might be a Pacific Northwest song because I hadn’t heard it in my 23 non-PNW Christmases. It’s so bad that during Christmas time I almost don’t want to live in Seattle because I know I’ll hear it on the radio.
To combat this holiday song bashing, I made a list of 60 great holiday tunes that I listen to on repeat during this time. I was going to post the list but decided against it after being mocked several times by my husband and brother in-law. It’s a real shame that they ruined it for all of you because there are some kick ass songs on the list. If you would like to leave hate notes for them, I’d be more than happy to stuff their stockings with them.

Connie
This week started off very badly. On Tuesday I hit a pole in the PCC parking garage. Up until Tuesday morning around 8:07am I thought people who hit poles were crazy. I mean, it’s a giant pole made of cement sticking out of the ground. How do you miss that? Just recently Josue hit a pole in the Powell’s bookstore parking lot (no damage was done to his car, lucky SOB) and while I was trying to keep my cool because we were with friends, I yelling and judging on the inside. I mean, it’s a pole. Right there for the world to see. Obviously, I was about 3 months to quick to judge. I can attest that it is quite easy to not see a pole and slam right into one.
For those of you who know me, you know that I love my car almost as much as I love my husband. Connie was brand new when she came home with me 7 years ago. It was two years before I left people drink anything but water in her. I still yell at Josue when he gets crumbs all over or his coffee spills in the cup holder. It’s an understatement to say that I’m a protective mother.
So Tuesday morning when I hit the pole I didn’t know what to do. I called Josue balling and he came to my rescue. Then he laughed at me because I apologized to Connie for hurting her. “It’s an inanimate object babe. She didn’t feel it.” Didn’t feel it? DIDN’T FEEL IT? How dare he. She has a giant crack in her bumper and she didn’t feel it? Yeah right.
We’re not sure yet if we’ll fix her or just tape her up. When I think of tape I think: WHAT DO WE DO DEAR GOD I CAN’T CONTROL MY BOWELS.
Things are looking brighter now. Yesterday was my last class of the quarter, so I’m done until Janurary 7th! Cosby Christmas is tonight. And I’ve started Twilight and Tales of Beedle the Bard!
